The Flagpole Beautification Project has been completed.

From the Chef

I thought that everyone would like an update on the progress of the flagpole project started earlier this year. It has been a long slow bureaucratic process, but it looks like things are starting to happen.

On Thursday, the 21st of October, a large vacuum truck with a water jet assist (like a power washer) excavated two holes, 30” wide and 10 feet deep. The vacuum truck sucks up all the water and small stones in the hole. The only thing left are the very large rocks and tree roots which had to be removed by hand.

A 30” in diameter heavy cardboard tube is placed in each hole to prevent cave-ins. The 2X4’s are used to ensure that the tube is maintained at the right height.

The rebar fixture, a 24” X 10-foot cage, is inserted into the cardboard tube to provide the necessary strength to the base.

2X4 forms are used to level the tubes and rebar fixtures at curb height.

Concrete is no longer mixed by hand. Now it’s provided in the exact amount you need and, in the consistency, needed for the job.

The process of pouring is made easy with this type of equipment.

Water that accumulated in the two holes is displaced by the concrete.

The last step in this process is to finish (smooth out) the surface of the newly poured concrete and clean-up the mess.

The next phase will be the actual instillation if the flagpoles. That should be in late December or early January.
