DESCRIPTION:It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Voyageur Gene Sorenson. \nGENE ARNOLD SORENSON\nNovember 17\, 1943 ˜ January 29\, 2025 \nGene Arnold Sorenson\, 81\, passed away on Jan. 29\, 2025 in Vancouver\, WA. He was born the second of five siblings to Arnold and Stella Sorenson in Ellensburg\, Wa.\nGene met his wife Connie in junior high school. He graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1962 and married Connie in 1964. Their two children\, Tami and Brett\, were born in 1967 and 1969. They moved to Vancouver in 1968\, where he spent the remainder of his life. Gene served in the army and had a long career as a USDA food inspector. He retired in 1999. He then worked as a maintenance manager for 40et8 Bingo working alongside Connie. After retiring from that job he helped Brett out as a delivery driver. Gene was an avid fisherman and spent many days fishing with friends and family.\nGene is survived by his daughter\, Tami Archer (Scott); son\, Brett (Stacy); brother Jerry (Ann)\, and sister Sonya; and his four grandchildren\, Jordan\, Jayd\, Megan and Jacob.\nHe was preceded in death by his wife Connie\, mother and father\, brother Les and brother Roger. Celebration of Life will be held on Sat. March 15\, from 1-3 p.m. at The 40et8 Chateau\,2809 NE 78th St\, Vancouver\, WA

DESCRIPTION:Veterans Day Open House\, promoting the theme “Veterans are Value Added to the Community\,” will be held at the Pearson Air Museum on November 11th from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. \nIt is a family-friendly event located at the end of the parade route. \nOrganizations supporting or honoring veterans can apply for a table at the event. Space is limited to 30 tables\, with about half still available. Please contact Jay Williams for more information at jay.williams@comcast.net. \nAttendees will enjoy free hot dogs\, coffee\, ice cream\, and a kids’ activity area. It was also noted that the museum and fort will be open to the public free of charge on this day. \n

We also use this event to educate our guests as to WHAT we do\, HOW we do it and WHY we do what we do to serve our clients in the best manner possible. \nEach year\, an inspirational citizen joins us to share a story of resilience\, perseverance and motivation. We are always amazed and appreciative of the stories and experiences our Keynote Speaker brings with them. \nThis year’s keynote speaker is US Navy Commander (ret.) Rebecca (Becky) Calder. A 1998 Naval Academy graduate and native of Longview\, WA\, Cmdr. Becky Calder served as an F/A-18 pilot and was the first woman pilot to graduate from the Navy’s Strike Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN). During her 15 years as a F/A-18 pilot she supported Operation Southern Watch\, Operation Enduring Freedom\, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
