Involving five U.S. presidents\, crossing nearly two decades and 500\,000 U.S.military personnel\, it left an indelible mark on the American psyche. \nReturning veterans did not always receive respectful welcomes upon their arrival on American soil. Over 58\,000 killed\, never to return. The observance recognizes the military service of these men and women who answered the call to serve their country when she needed them. They didn’t make the decisions to go to war. \nThroughout the observance\, we recognize the service and duty rendered by all servicemen and women of this era. \nHOW TO OBSERVE #VietnamWarVeteransDay\nAround the country\, commemorative events\, speeches\, and luncheons are being held inviting Vietnam Veterans as honored guests. SUMMARY:Christmas Ships Combined Fleet
DESCRIPTION:On December 5th\, the Northwest Christmas Ships will send it’s combined flotilla along the Vancouver waterfront!  \nEach year\, the Christmas Ship parade averages 55 to 60 boats between the Columbia and Willamette River fleets. The vessels don intricate and creative displays\, shining bright for guests along each riverbank to enjoy. The combined fleet will assemble at the James M. Gleason Boat Ramp at 7:00pm and prepare for departure to Beaches restaurant in Vancouver. Starting at about 7:30pm\, the ships will parade along the waterfront\, continuing west under the I-5 bridge towards the Vancouver Waterfront Park. The fleet will remain outside for about two hours\, weather (and river) permitting. \nThis is a free\, family friendly tradition\, cherished and enjoyed by many in the community! Several waterfront restaurants and parks will provide excellent opportunities to see and enjoy the parade\, and more information on the fleet’s route can be found on the Christmas Ship Parade website. \nCan’t make it to the parade? No worries! This combined fleet will embark on the I-5 Bridge route for the following dates in December: 12/5\, 12/10\, 12/17\, and 12/19 (weather / conditions permitting).
