Vancouver\, WA \nFrom Portland \n1) cross the I-205 bridge into Washington. Take first exit off the bridge\, onto Hwy 14\, going east toward Camas (note: the exit ramp has two lanes; you want to be in the left one) \n2) take SE 164th St exit\, exit 8\, from Hwy 14. Turn right at the light at the exit ramp\, going down the hill on SE 164th toward the Columbia River. \n3) at the bottom of the small hill\, turn right on SE Evergreen Highway and head west\, parallel with the Columbia River. \n4) in just over a mile\, you will see Steamboat Landing\, a gated subdivision on the left. Continue west on SE Evergreen Highway another 1/4 mile\, and look for the set of mailboxes on your left. This is Riverwood Lane\, a gravel road between trees\, with a small street sign\, and a Private Road sign. (Across the street is Silver Springs Subdivision with a street heading up the hill to the right). Note: if you go under the I-205 bridge\, you’ve gone too far. \n5) Stop at the mailboxes and look for trains. Be VERY careful of \nthis train crossing\, going in and out. \nIt is an ACTIVE track\, and the trains are not blowing their horns!! \nThere is some parking along SE Evergreen Hwy. \nTurn left onto SE Riverwood Lane\, crossing the train tracks. Follow the road to the left a very short distance and take the first drive to the right immediately after the “10 MPH Please” sign. \nCross the stream and proceed straight ahead to the white house at the end of the road. \nThere is some parking in front of the house: 3412 SE Riverwood Court. DESCRIPTION:The fourth annual Country Shindig Concert & Dance to benefit the Veterans Memorial will be held on Friday\, April 14\, from 6 to 10 p.m.\, at the Battle Ground Community Center. The event\, presented by Columbia Credit Union\, features local favorite Branded Band. Food and beverages will be available for purchase\, as will raffle tickets for prizes such as private wine tastings\, a weekend at the beach\, gourmet baskets and more. \nThe Veterans Memorial\, located in Battle Ground’s Kiwanis Park was dedicated on November 11\, 2015. The names of 31 honored veterans\, local Battle Ground service members who died in service to our country\, are engraved on its walls. The memorial was fully funded by donations\, evidence of the community’s steadfast commitment to honoring those who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and those who died protecting our freedom. DESCRIPTION:National Medal of Honor day is a day that is dedicated to all Medal of Honor recipients. \nIt was on March 25\, 1863 when the first Medals of Honor were presented.  Secretary of War\, Edwin Stanton presented Medals of Honor (Army) to six members of  “Andrews Raiders” for their volunteering and participation during an American Civil War raid in April of 1862. \nCreated in 1861\, the Medal of Honor is the United States of America’s highest military honor.  It is awarded only to US military personnel\, by the President of the United States in the name of Congress\, for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. \nThere are three versions of the Medal of Honor; one for the Army\, one for the Navy and one for the Air Force\, with personnel of the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard receiving the Navy version. \nSince its creation\, there have been 3\,468 Medals of Honor awarded to the country’s soldiers\, sailors\, airmen\, Marines and coast guardsmen. \nHOW TO OBSERVE \nUse #MedalOfHonorDay to post on social media. \nHISTORY \nIn 1990\, the United States Congress designated March 25th of each year as National Medal of Honor Day. \n
